Trichy ~ Tiruchirappalli

It was 8.30pm on 11th November 2011, a Friday, when we left Thanjavur for Trichy a.k.a. Tiruchirappalli. I will write about Thanjavur later….some juicy story there. Haha…

Trichy or Tiruchirappalli is located on the banks of Kaveri (Cauvery) River. It’s about 48 km from Thanjavur but took us slightly more than an hour. Trichy is a city known for its educational institutions, industries and temples. And, its most famous landmark is the Rock Fort Temple – and that’s the sole reason for our stop-over at Trichy – my brother was anxious to see the Rock Fort Temple. Since it was already too late to visit the temple on that day itself, we went straight to the pre-booked hotel – Grand Gardenia located at Mannarpuram Junction. We were so happy with Grand Gardenia. Apparently, it’s only a 3 star but we would give it a 7 star rating !! No joke …it was amazingly clean, neat and exclusively designed. Their in-house facilities were great…a health club called Ivy Gym & Spa, Dining – Kannappa Restaurant which served authentic chettinad food and a Rooftop Multicuisine Restaurant known as Golden Palm where brekky was served. They have Banquets & Conference Rooms which accommodates 25-300 pax and the rooms are named as Lotus, Tulip and Arcadia. We took up a Grand Suite and 2 Double Executive Rooms. It was a 24 hours checkout system (all hotels have the same system). An exclusive Wifi was available, so got to browse the net and check mails. It was just beautiful and their rooms – a state of the art rooms and suites. Haha...you'll be wondering what's so great about all these...we have great hotels in Malaysia and much more better ones ! But in India, it's not the same...not in the many hotels that we've stayed prior to Grand Gardenia - an exceptionally CLEAN hotel is not easy to come by...you'll get to hear about the state of other hotels in my forthcoming entries...it was such a dissapointment ! Sorry, India ! So, that night in Grand Gardenia, we had peaceful, restful and wonderful sleep with clean pure white bedspread and it was heavenly ! ...:-)

12th November 2011 (Saturday) – We had our brekky at the GoldenPalm on the rooftop. Great food. Then to Rock Fort Temple – it’s a spectacular monument perched on a massive rocky like hill. It has a collection of 3 temples – the Manikka Vinayakar Temple which is at the foot of the hill, the Uchhi Pillayar at the top of the hill and the Taayumaanavar – a rock cut temple on a hill which can be reached by a flight of steps on the way to the Ucchi Pillayar temple. I was just plain tired to climb those steps and remained at the foot of the hill, watching a huge elephant and its caretaker. I was told that we can only feed him some kind of leaves and no fruits as the elephant was on a diet control…haha…but that’s true ! When you feed him those leaves, the elephant will bless you by placing his trunk on your head and it will then ring the bells on its neck. Amazing !

Mum offered prayers and contributed lunch for all visitors/devotees that day – she just had to make a payment and the temple authorities would do the necessary. So after that was done, we left. We did not stay for lunch at the temple. And as I was just leaving…I bumped into a friend (a stranger turned friend) while I was in Thanjavur. He is Cedric from France. It was a coincidence. It was great to meet him again and he was so delighted to see me… and vice versa of course…haha. We got our numbers and emails exchanged. Got a kiss on both my cheeks..ahem ! and was introduced to his mum, I think ... or could be his wife...haha..but she looked much older...nah ! must be his mum....hahaha.... My family members were already in the Tempo Traveller and moving away since there was no parking area and I had to actually run after the coach. They threatened to leave me behind…hahaha…I got into the coach with a BIG grin…..:-) And, someone asked me how I could let Cedric kiss me in the temple grounds....in the temple...it's a holy place, ....woo hoo, did I taint the temple with that kiss...but I was then thinking so hard, hey ! it was just a kiss on the cheeks and not on the lips...haha...but, silently...I apologised to God ...I'm sorry Lord :-)

Anyway, later we went for a lil shopping and got back to Grand Gardenia, checked out and left Trichy after our lunch at Hotel Kannappa .....and our next destination - Ooty ! We were told that we have to reach before 7pm otherwise the gates uphill to Ooty would be closed. Unfortunately, we reached later than 7 and had to put up a night at the base of Ooty :-( .....My next entry will be about Ooty ! but for now, tell me that you love Trichy..hehe I do ! here, enjoy the pictures of Trichy…:-)

I found this at the main entrance of the Hotel.

Bangalore ~ Bengaluru

One of the places we visited in India was Bangalore a.k.a. Bengaluru. It's well known as a hub - India's IT sector, thus the name "Silicon Valley of India". We arrived a little after midnight in Bangalore without any pre-booking of hotels. We were taken to a hotel known as Dr Raj International. It looked good but they did not have rooms available that night. They recommended another hotel opposite theirs - Suvidh Comforts. The condition of the hotel was alright. Since everyone was extremely exhausted after such a long drive from Ooty to Mysore and finally to Bangalore, we "collapsed" in the comfort of Suvidh. ! Haha....

I woke up quite early and the first thing I did was to get thru' a facebook friend of mine who lives in Bangalore. He is a Chennaite but working in Bangalore. My buddy Jac !

Message for Jac (if you're reading my blog) : Hey ! Jac, how do you do ? Sorry for sending you that text so early in the morning. I guess you were fast asleep and I woke you up ! You know, I'm always "d alarm clock" haha....anyways, it was good talking to you. Take care buddy !"

So, as I was saying about Jac - sadly, did not get to meet my buddy. I did not have the time and we were planning to leave Bangalore asap...as we were only passing thru'. However, I do hope to meet Jac one day :-) Either in Malaysia or in Bengaluru...haha. It was also unfortunate that Jac was not living close by to where I was staying and it being a working day (15/11/2011 @ Tuesday), I guess that even made it impossible to meet. Moreover, this bad me never gave him any notice of my arrival...lol. So, we just had a chat - over the phone.

Coming back to this garden city, I never made it to any of their beautiful gardens or parks but just whisked through the city. Weather was awesome. Felt the cool breeze although it was sunny. But..oh boy ! the traffic in Bangalore is horrendous. We decided to take the auto-rickshaw to do some shopping instead of the 12 seater Tempo Traveller that we were travelling in. We did some quick shopping and left Bangalore just after lunch at Mirchi Durbar - a multi cuisine restaurant. Our next destination was Chennai - back to Chennai which took us close to 8 hours. I'll tell you more about my other destinations in India - in my next entry. Here are some of the pictures taken in Bangalore..:-)

This is Dr Raj International Hotel - the first hotel in Bangalore that we approached but
rooms were unavailable that night.

Ended up at Suvidh Comforts opposite Dr Raj International - behind me
is the Manager of the Hotel.
Suvidh Comforts @ Gandhi Nagar

MTR (Mavali Tiffin Room) - where we had our brekky - it was walking distance
from Suvidh Comforts.  Apparently, MTR has always been
one of the city's hottest and favourite eating spots.

Inside MTR - nice and comfortable place and good food too !
The sweet shop inside MTR was awesome !
After brekky at MTR :-)

A townhall in Bangalore in the 30's
Petrol Station
No ! am not as tall at her yet ..lol
Then we went shopping :-)
Mum - making her selections...guess she's already confused...one too many...:-)

Shopping spree ! Hehe...make a wild guess - did I purchase this saree
or not ?  The driver  behind liked it though :-)
Yay ! I'm as tall as her now..almost  !...lol
Poor Brother in Law and Jeevan (my nephew) too tired
to walk any further...lol
Then, it was time for lunch...I was yearning for fast food and was glad to see McD -
unfortunately it was only a billboard and I could not find the McD outlet...
so the hunt for lunch continued....

Yay ! finally had our lunch in Mirchi Durbar,
a multi cuisine restaurant - it was good !

At Mirchi Durbar there was this FBar ...happy hours !!
Too early right ? So it was just wise to skip ...lol
My home ! Yeah, that's my house in Bangalore...;)
Nah ! I was only joking. But how I wish. It's really beautiful.

My Perfect New Boots !

Yay ! my perfect new boots ! Howisit? lol....
I fell in love with this boots and I purchased it instantly. I know I won't be able to wear it in Malaysia but I'm saving it for my future trips elsewhere...lol ! This is my second boots in my lifetime. I just could not resist wearing them and since it was purchased on my last day in India, I wore it back home. I may have looked odd in boots at Chennai Airport but being me I was just not bothered...lol !
Me @ Express Avenue Shopping Mall in Chennai - where I purchased my lovely boots !

Haha...struggling with the pain and balancing with one foot...oh ! boy...it was really biting me  :-(
Anyway, my so called perfect new boots was not kind to me :-(  ................... Despite following an old superstition : "Bite your new shoes before they bite you" - it still bit me !!! I was okay until I was walking towards the customs at the airport - and I was like wishing I could just remove 'em. It was so very painful. Thankfully, at the customs check/scanner, (for once I loved that particular officer) - she told me to remove my leather jacket as well as my boots. With no questions asked, I gladly removed 'em and you should have seen how happy I was...lol - I tried to remain bare feet after that, but while waiting for my bags from the scanner, an officer saw me and told me that I can wear my boots now. I was just trying to buy time to rest my feet but...hmm....

So, here are the pictures of me in my new perfect boots ! LOL.....
See the look on my face - hoping no one would notice the pain...haha...but I got a place to sit and relax my feet...:-)
And, this was when I could not find a seat and had no choice but to sit on the trolley.....I was just not able to stand any longer...haha
Able to pose here - I was still calling it a perfect boots - not feeling any pain yet ..;)
In the beginning, it was alright...lol
Still managing despite the pain...I was slightly  upset when the officer told me that I could wear my boots...:-(
Hmmm.....so much for my new perfect boots.....lol....more stories to come later on....bye for now :o)

Oh ! my cluttered desk !!!

Yay ! I’m back. Sorry for not updating my blog for over 2 weeks. Hope you guys are doing well. I got back from my vacation on Saturday. But that’s another story which I will tell you later.

Today, my mind literally stood still when I got in to office. My first day of work after 18 days of absence. I just don’t know where to start ! Help me !!! My desk is in a clutter. Piles and piles of documents lying on my in-tray. Messages everywhere. My mailbox is full. The phone will not stop ringing. I don’t want to work. I wish I could go back home and cry my heart out…boo hoo….lol !

Well, you know that’s not me at all. I will somehow manage along the way. I just need a breather right now and so am writing my heart out here before I get back and see how to sort out this messy desk of mine. If you’re around, please come and gimme a hand, will you ? lol

I simply wish I had a clutter fairy and get everything purged in no time ! Or the least, trash everything and put up a brave smiling face...lol...(shhooo...dont tell my boss of my mischievous idea, k ? ) ...haha

Anyway, I've got no choice now, I’ve got to deal with this thing first. I need happiness and only with a clean desk will I be happy. So, when I get into another “mood swing” I’ll come and blog again…lol

Psstt!!! btw, do you know that a cluttered desk is the sign of a genius ? lol.....Dan the braggo ! haha

See ya soon...!! :-)
